About Mr. Gutierrez:

Hello! I’m Mr. Gutierrez and I teach 7th and 8th grade General Music and Choir here at ZCMS! My family and I are from Chicago but grew up in Round Lake Beach and went to Round Lake High School. It wasn’t until high school that I decided to join theatre and choir, were my passion for music and teaching developed. After high school, I attended Illinois State University (Go Redbirds!!) where I received my Bachelors Degree in Music Education with a choral specialization. While at ISU, I had the opportunity to travel to NYC and perform at Carnegie Hall on a choir tour! I’ve had opportunities to direct two musicals while in college as well maintain my own voice and piano studio where I taught students ranging from 9 to 40 years old.

Since high school, I’ve been in eight musical and play productions, including having a lead role in an opera at Illinois State. I have also played in the orchestra pit for five musicals: Little Shop of Horrors (guitar); The Grunch: A New Children’s Musical (piano); Dorothy in Wonderland (piano); Loves Labours Lost (piano, synthesizer, guitar); and Tarzan the Musical (piano, synthesizer).

Lastly, what do I enjoy doing outside of music? I really enjoy cooking (huge Alton Brown and Food Network fan!), being outdoors (camping, etc.), and traveling…in fact, I’ve visited Spain (twice), France, Monaco, Italy, Morocco, Germany, and Costa Rica!
